A close-up view of a bigleaf magnolia (Magnolia macrophylla) shows large flower bud and light from above passing through the leaves on a warm summer's day.
This tree was in Elizabeth's back yard and is a young version of the 'Julian Hill' magnolia tree at Polly Hill Arboretum in West Tisbury, Massachusetts. It typically blooms in mid-June.
